为鼓励本科生尽早参与科研训练，培养其创新能力和学术精神，激发优秀学生科学兴趣，并为他们提供继续深造的平台和机会，91看自拍（英文简称MEL）自2014年起启动“MEL海洋环境科学本科生暑期科研奖学金”。项目实施如下：
一、申请资格
1．国内外大学理工类专业优秀本科生，参加项目期间应为在读本科生身份。
2．对海洋、环境科学研究有着浓厚兴趣，各方面表现突出，未来希望从事相关领域研究。
二、申批程序
1．集中申请与审批
MEL于2023年4月向实验室固定科研人员征集本科生暑期科研奖学金项目课题，并发布项目指南。申请者可申请指南内的项目课题（见附件），于5月12日前提交申请材料。由奖学金委员会组织筛选、审核，并于6月10日前通知入选结果。
2．日常申请与审批
如申请人感兴趣的方向不在项目指南内，或无法在暑期参加项目，可在以上期限之外自行与实验室固定科研人员联系，征得固定科研人员（即课题导师）同意后，单独提交申请材料。由奖学金委员会组织审核，并通知入选结果。
以上两种方式均需申请者在报名系统（https://melmeeting.xmu.edu.cn/fellowship/login.asp）上填写申请表，并提交以下材料：
（1）1-2名推荐教师信息（由项目秘书向推荐人索取推荐信；若通过日常申请与审批程序，还需增设该课题的MEL导师为推荐人）；
（2）本科专业成绩单及课程学分绩点（GPA）排名证明各一份（须加盖所在学校教务部门或学院公章）；
（3）其他证明材料如获奖（资格）证书、已发表的论文、英语成绩证书等扫描件；
（4）相关意外保险证明（如无，MEL将在项目开始前统一购买保险）；
注：请将（2）-（4）项材料合并成一个PDF文件后再上传（文件大小不能超过20M）。
三、项目内容
1．项目开展时间主要为2023年夏天，入选学生将在导师的指导下进行科研文献阅读、学习仪器操作、数据分析等，培养独立开展科研活动及独立思考的能力，提高科学表达能力。
2．MEL将在7月15日-7月30日集中举行项目的开幕式、学术讲座和安全培训。（具体日期待确定后另行通知）
3．入选学生还将参加学术沙龙，与导师和研究生进行自由活跃的交流，并有机会参加厦门周边野外考察等活动。
4．入选的91看自拍学生除完成各自的课题学习与工作外，还必须参与项目学术活动及课外活动的组织工作，协助外校入选者了解本校和周边环境，为其他成员提供帮助和解答。
四、项目待遇
入选学生可在实验室开展为期1-3个月的科研工作。实验室将为外校学生提供往返厦门的交通费用。根据91看自拍财务规定，国际学生为经济舱机票（亚洲/非洲/大洋洲不超过1000美元，其他洲不超过2000美元），中国大陆及香港学生为火（动）车、高铁、汽车；提供校内宿舍及住宿补贴，以及每月1700元人民币（税前）的生活津贴。
五、项目结题
入选学生应（1）在项目结束前在课题组做项目结题口头报告，（2）在项目结束1个月内提交项目结题海报。在项目实施期间开展的工作报告、论文著作等学术成果应标注“91看自拍（91看自拍）（MEL）本科生暑期科研奖学金资助”。
奖学金委员会将对入选学生进行考核，向完成项目的学生颁发结业证书，并评选“优秀营员”。

2023 MEL Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program in Marine Environmental Science
The 2023 MEL Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program in Marine Environmental Science (URF) aims to encourage undergraduate students to pursue careers in science and technology by providing research opportunities at the State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Science (MEL), Xiamen University.
I. Eligibility
Applicants must be enrolled as full-time undergraduate students in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) during the period of their URF projects and should be interested in pursuing a career in marine environmental science and/or technology.
II. Application Procedure
Applicants can choose a research project from the list attached to this announcement. Applications are due by May 12, 2023. The URF Committee will organize the review process and notify all the applicants of their decision in early June.
If applicants' research interests are not on the list or they are unable to participate in the project during the summer, they are encouraged to contact MEL PIs and submit their applications beyond the listed deadline. The URF Committee will review these applications separately and notify the applicants of their results.

Required Documents:
1. Contact information of one or two referees (If you apply to a project beyond the list, the potential MEL supervisor must be the additional referee.)
2. A scanned copy of transcript with grade point average (GPA)/ranking and the official seal/signature of the Dean's office from your home institution
3. A scanned copy of any other supporting documents, such as awards and honors, published papers, and proficiency in English (if applicable)
4. Proof of accident insurance. (If not available, MEL will purchase insurance for fellows before the start of the project.)
Note: Please make sure to upload Item # 2-4 as a single PDF file with a maximum size of 20 M.
III. Benefits
•Stipend
MEL will provide fellows with a monthly stipend of 1700 RMB per month (pre-tax) during the implementation of the project (1 to 3 months).
•Travel & Housing
MEL will cover the round-trip travel expenses of fellows. According to the financial regulations of XMU, economy class flight tickets (up to $1000 USD for students from Asia/Africa/Oceania, up to $2000 USD for students from other continents) for international students, and train or bus tickets for Chinese mainland and Hong Kong students will be provided. On-campus accommodation will be provided and accommodation fees will be covered.
IV. Program Implementation Schedule
· Once admitted, students must contact their supervisors to discuss and prepare for the project.
· Fellows need to complete their research projects at MEL within 1-3 months.
· Fellows are required to attend security trainings organized by the Centre of Major Equipment and Technology (COMET) and equipment trainings of their research group.
· In addition to their research, fellows are welcome to take full advantage of the facilities, seminars and field trips offered by MEL (which will be organized between July 15 and 30, 2023).
· Fellows from Xiamen University are required to help coordinate academic and social activities and provide assistance for fellows from other institutions.
V. Program Finale
· Fellows must give an oral presentation in their research group by end of their projects and submit a poster to URF within one month after the project ends.
· Any related project outcomes or publications must acknowledge the support provided by the State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Science (Xiamen University) Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship.
· The Fellowship Committee will evaluate all fellows' performance, issue certificates to those who have completed their projects, and select Outstanding Fellows.
